Harvia Sauna Heaters Review (2025)
Updated February 2025 — Backyard Sauna Pro
Harvia is the default recommendation for residential sauna heaters for a reason. Founded in Finland in 1950, they are the largest sauna heater manufacturer in the world. Their electric heaters power more home saunas in North America than any other brand. Here is a full breakdown of each model line and which one belongs in your sauna.
Quick Picks by Use Case
- Best overall electric: Harvia KIP 60B (6kW) or KIP 80B (8kW)
- Best wood-burning: Harvia M3
- Best premium electric: Harvia Cilindro
- Best large room: Harvia Legend 240SL (24kW)
Harvia KIP Series (Electric)
The KIP is Harvia's workhorse residential heater and the one we recommend most often. Clean design, reliable thermostat, suitable stone capacity, and available in sizes from 3.5kW to 9kW to cover virtually any home sauna. The KIP includes a built-in timer and thermostat; pair it with the Harvia Griffin WiFi controller if you want remote preheat.
Harvia KIP 60B — 6kW
Covers rooms up to 265 cubic feet. The standard pairing for Almost Heaven Pinnacle 4-person and similar mid-size barrel saunas. 240V/25A circuit required. Built-in thermostat and timer, 15-20 kg stone capacity.

Covers rooms up to 353 cubic feet. The right choice for larger barrel saunas and 4-6 person indoor kits. 240V/30A circuit. Same controls as the 60B.
Available on Amazon and sauna specialty retailers
Harvia M3 (Wood-Burning)
The M3 is the best-selling residential wood-burning sauna stove in Finland and one of the most popular in North America. Cast iron and steel construction, large stone basket (up to 40 kg), and a distinctive design that has not changed much since the original. The M3 requires a properly installed chimney flue and is the right choice for off-grid saunas or anywhere electric is not an option.
Harvia M3 Wood-Burning Sauna Stove
For rooms up to 530 cubic feet. Authentic wood-fired sauna experience. Large stone capacity means excellent loyly (steam). Requires chimney installation — factor in $300-800 for flue kit if not already present.

The Cilindro is Harvia's design-forward premium heater — the cylindrical stainless steel form is distinctive, it has a large stone capacity for better steam, and the overall build quality is noticeably higher than the KIP. Available in 8kW and 10kW versions. Costs roughly double the KIP but the loyly quality is meaningfully better due to the larger stone mass. Worth it for a dedicated sauna room where aesthetics and performance both matter.
Harvia Legend Series (Commercial / Large)
For large rooms and commercial applications. The Legend 240SL (24kW, three-phase) handles up to 1,500+ cubic feet. Rarely needed for residential use, but relevant for large custom sauna rooms or retreat centers. The heater sizing guide will tell you if you are in this territory.
Harvia Legend 240SL — 24kW
For very large rooms. Three-phase 240V. Used in commercial and high-end residential installations.
